He was born the son of wealthy landowners in Virginia. He first engaged in battle in 1754 at the command of a joint force of British-American troops against the French and Indians. Years after he met his wife and focused on managing his manor at Mount Vernon and settling into married life. He was a brilliant strategist and tactian. His men respected his leadership and thus he was one of the most successful military leaders in American history.

After commanding the US Army in the Revolutionary War, he was again instrumental in American history and actually presided over the Constitutional Convention of 1787 which created the United States Constitution. Despite being asked to be king, Washington turned the position down instead opting for the elected position of President in 1789 which he served out honorably until 1797. Washington's influence and intelligence were pivotal in creating the road map for the modern day government and his contributions to the country remain some of the greatest to date.

Royal Doulton's version of Washington features a revolutionary of his time period. He is depicted later in life as a gentleman with large somber blue eyes, a sharp nose and pursed lips. His white hair frames his face and extends to the back where it is tied in a burgundy bow, indicative of the time period in which he lived. He is in a black jacket with matching tricorn hat with a flower brooch at the top and a white ruffled shirt. The handle is composed of a rolled parchment scroll upon which the Declaration of Independence is written.
