Made in England from 1940-42 this is the extremely rare version of the Cavalier character jug with Goatee. This piece has a green hat and a white ruff. Originally a form of abuse, implying an overbearing manner,'Cavalier' was adopted by the royalists during the Civil War to describe themselves. Cavaliers were opposed to the Roundheads of Cromwell and the Parliamentarians.
