The MGM superstar, Clark Gable begin life in Cadiz, Ohio, the son of an oil driller. Working alongside his father until he was 21, the young Gable joined a traveling troupe to fulfill his acting dreams.
After a shaky start, the future heartthrob was finally signed in 1931 to a Hollywood contract by MGM, where he played a succession of supporting roles, often as a gangster. Gable disliked this typecasting and subsequently was given the lead part as a reporter in Frank Capra's "It Happened One Night, " a role that won him an Academy Award. He's most important role, however, was as Rhett Butler in one of the biggest box office hits of all time, Gone With The Wind.Starring opposite Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara, Gable utters one of cinemas most quoted lines that is incorporated in the backstamp of the jug, Frankly My Dear, I Don't Give a Damn. " The steamy actors post World War II career was less successful, but Clark never lost his fan support that earned him the title, "King of Hollywood. " For many years a leading box office attraction, the "King made more than 65 films. He died shortly after finish his final film, The Misfits.
Production of this jug ceased almost immediately upon beginning due to contractual difficulties with MGM Hollywood and Clark Gable's Estate.
