When Peter ones China were commissioning a special color way of Athos they requested that it be painted in rich red and gold colors and for the inside rim to be shaded in the old manner of early releases. Sadly for one reason or another (cost) Royal Doulton decided not to intorduction the production of the example shown here. In perfect condition with a Doulton stamp its a stunning unique piece that really stands out in terms of quality and style. This Athos trial is one of the classics and used to belong to the Bearman Collection before being acquired by ourselves - for further information refer to page 45 of the A Century of Royal Doulton Character and Toby Jugs. As everyone knows it is always difficult to price pieces like this so we are starting off with what we think is a relatively high price and are opening it up to offers.
