All in perfect condition except one minor chip on the "Apothecary"'s back shoulder (in picture). The Royal Doulton Character Jugs from Williamsburg were introduced in 1963 and quickly became sought-after collectibles.

These pieces artfully combine colonial American life's rich history with Royal Doulton's esteemed craftsmanship. The original collection featured seven character jugs inspired by figures from the 18th-century town of Williamsburg, Virginia, including the Apothecary, Bootmaker, Blacksmith, Guardsman, Gunsmith, Night Watchman, and Gaoler. These characters were selected to represent various facets of daily life and occupation in the historic town, adding a tangible connection to America's past. The jugs, designed by Max Henk and David Biggs, were made in large, small, or mini sizes and remained in production for about 20 years.

The designs focused on the details and personalities of each character, ensuring each jug was a representation of the town's diverse inhabitants. Despite the original series ending in 1983, the collection was later completed with the addition of the Cabinet Maker character jug in 1995, commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Royal Doulton International Collectors Club. These jugs are not only valuable as collectibles but also serve as artistic representations of American colonial history, bridging the gap between past and present through porcelain artistry?
