Royal Doulton D5757 Mephistopheles Large Character Jug with Verse

ROYAL DOULTON CHARACTER JUG - wonderful, very rare, large Mephistopheles double-faced character jug with verse, D5757. This jug was only issued from 1937 to 1948 and the designers were Charles Noke and Henry Fenton. 6" high and about 6.5" wide and is in very good, very clean all round condition with no chips, cracks or damage and no signs of wear nor restoration. It is fully stamped underneath and has the verse (see photo) and is first quality. The underside inscribed with the verse. "When the devil was sick the devil a saint would be, when the devil got well the devil a saint was he".
