The Royal Doulton Explorers character jugs are a set of six tiny jugs that depict Europeans who figured prominently in the exploration of other parts of the world. The explorers (and their item numbers) are Marco Polo (D7084), Vasco da Gama (D7083), Christopher Columbus (D7081), Capt. David Livingstone (D7085), and Capt. The character jugs, which are approximately 1.5 H, were designed by Stanley Taylor. They were issued as a set, complete with a wooden wall mount display stand, in 1997 in a limited edition of 2,500.
As shown in the photos, they are in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The jugs for the six explorers--Polo, da Gama, Columbus, Cook, Livingstone, and Scott--are shown in photos #4 through #9, respectively. When I took these photos, I discovered that the da Gama jug has a manufacturing flaw, which I had previously failed to notice. The handle for each jug takes the form of a navigation chart and globe, with the navigation chart showing the explorers area of exploration. As shown in photo #5, the navigation chart on da Gamas jug, which should show Africa and the southern tip of India, is blank.
The wooden wall mount display stand is shown in photos #10 and #11. Note that its shelves and back are covered by green felt. The item "Royal Doulton Explorers Character Jugs Excellent Condition But See Description" is in sale since Saturday, November 3, 2018.
