Royal Doulton Prototype Character Jug - Mr Micawber. A rare Royal Doulton prototype character jug of Mr Micawber from the Charles Dickens novel David Copperfield. This is an original sample piece, stamped to the underside with'This Item Is The Property Of Royal Doulton And Title To The Property Remains. With The Company At All Times. Royal Doulton went on to produce this piece in 1996 with the serial no. The piece is hand painted in realistic colours with the jacket in green (The jacket in the later issued pieces had a mustard jacket).

Mr Micawbers gloves and gilt topped cane form the handle. The base of the jug has the Royal Doulton, England stamp and another stamp reading'DESIGN Original Sample'. The jug measures 6 inches (15cm) across, 5 ½ inches (14cm) deep and has a height of 8 inches (20cm). It weighs 1.19 Kg. The jug is in a wonderful condition with no wear or damage.
