The more common Pearly Girl jugs wear a blue or brown jacket and a pink or maroon hat which makes this particular piece exceptional as it is in the white. The'A' stamp confirms it as being a "Pearly Girl" rather than the similar "'Arriet". The Charlton Standard catalogue (10th edition) of Royal Doulton Jugs has a white glaze Pearly BOY mentioned as'Extremely Rare' with no price guide. In the same guide there is no mention of the a White glaze Pearly GIRL so would rate beyond'Extremely Rare'.
Dimensions The piece measures 3.5 inches (8.7cm) wide, 3 inches (7.5cm) deep and 3.5 inches (8.7cm) in height. The jug weighs 132 grams. Condition As can be seen, there is a small firing crack on the interior of the jug - it does not show through to the other si de.
This would be one reason why it is not colour glazed - see below. The jug is otherwise in good order with no cracks, chips or crazing.
